1/4 cup dried whole green gram (mung beans), washed and soaked overnight
2 teaspoons salt, or to taste
1 cinnamon stick
1 black cardamom pod
1 bay leaf
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon green chile, chopped
1 cup tomatoes, chopped
1 piece cream cheese spread triangles, or 1 tablespoon cream cheese
1 teaspoon red chili powder
1 teaspoon ground coriander
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
1/4 teaspoon garam masala
2 tablespoons dried fenugreek leaves (kasuri methi)
1/2 teaspoon sugar
Steamed rice, for serving
